FAQs
A psychiatrist has a medical degree and can prescribe medication. A psychologist can diagnose mental health conditions. A counsellor utilises talk therapy to assist clients to find a resolution.
When we first meet I will spend a little time getting to know you and what issues are troubling you. By exploring background information, I am better able to see things from your point of view. Then we will start to explore strategies to help you resolve these issues and build up your resilience.
Often you will feel better after just one session. On average, clients have 6-8 sessions. Sometimes you will need several sessions to process your issues and find a way forward. Most people attend counselling on a regular basis but it is best to speak to your counsellor about your individual needs.
You do not need a referral from your GP, meaning that your appointment is completely confidential.
There are no rebates available for these sessions, however, the cost is comparable to the gap payable to psychologists after you have claimed the Medicare rebate.
All your counselling sessions are completely confidential. However, it is important to note that our ethical and legal state guidelines require disclosure if there is a potential for self-harm or harm to another person, or if case notes are subpoenaed by a court of law. You may also give written permission for notes to be shared with other professionals if you wish to do so.
I offer both face to face counselling, telephone or facetime as well as Walk and Talk.
If you cancel within 24 hours of the appointment 100% of the fee is payable. If you give more than 24 hours cancellation, there is no charge.
